Four Day Retreats, one booking

Four Day Retreats, one booking

Four Sundays: August and September 2026, January and April 2027 at Snainton Village Hall

Sangharakshita gave a series of iconic lectures entitled Buddhism for Today and Tomorrow that offer a vision of four gifts (based on the poem above) that Buddhism and Triratna have to offer the world and individuals — four deep responses to the human condition, four invitations to step more fully into our unfolding.

A series of four Day Retreats to sit with these gifts, to listen, to discuss and to explore how they speak to our lives now.  Sangharakshita described them as “corresponding to our deepest and truest needs” — and perhaps this is why they continue to resonate so strongly. However, dare we accept them?

Each day retreat stands alone, but the themes lead from one into the next, and the greatest benefit will be received when committing to attend all four, hence offering the chance to book them all at once.

Who are the day retreats for?  They are open to anyone who has already done a course with Scarborough Triratna Buddhist Group.

Accessibility: Snainton Village Hall is accessible to wheelchair-users, including toilet and car-parking space.

Refreshments: hot drinks and biscuits provided. Bring and share lunch (more about this in the joining information nearer the time.)

Cost: £70 booking fee covers all four day retreats. Any additional donation you can afford at the time would be very much appreciated.  Please do get in touch with us if you can’t afford the booking fee, we don’t want anyone missing out because of lack of funds.

Programme

Sunday 16 August: The first gift: a lotus flower

The lotus flower is a symbol of transformation, of growth from the depths towards clarity and light. A reminder that the path of personal development — offered through meditation and the wider Buddhist tradition — is both simple and profound.

Sunday 6 September: The second gift: the golden net

The golden net symbolises the Buddhist vision of existence realised through insight into conditionality

Perfect vision is the vision of the Buddha.

On this day retreat we will be exploring the Buddha's vision of human existence, as the direct spiritual experience of the Buddha.

Sunday 24 January 2027: The third gift: a shepherd's round dance.

We will be exploring the Sangharakshita's vision of the spiritual community as the Nucleus of a New Society.

Sunday 18 April 2027: The fourth gift: a garden planted in the wilderness

We'll be looking at the structures that we can create to live a supportive Dharma life and benefit the world.
